Thinking Day Parade '09

This year's TDP went pretty well I guess :) everyone tried their best and pressed on even when school work piled up while we prepared for today. My last parade in NYGG went by in a blink of an eye.

I counted the number of times more we get to wear our Guide's full u. Sec 4s have about 6 more chances. Used to dread wearing full u at times when I was running short of time and found it hard to prepare everything beforehadn. Guess we'll only learn to appreciate something after knowing that you will be losing it.

Ah wells. Shall treasure every moment in Guides, now that it'll be my last year ;)

THINKING DAY PARADE TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda sad it's my last parade in NYGG. It'll probably be my last parade too. JIAYOU everyone!

On a more solemn note, I went to Kranji War Memorial today. I didn't think it would had affected me that much before I came, but in the end, it sort of did. All those emotions came flowing back when I saw the rows and rows of tombstones. It was as if the heart was contricted by some invisible force.

There was a soldier who died at war, aged 16 - that's my age this year. It'll probably also mean that he would have joined the army much younger. Imagine what he could have experienced in his life if the war did not happen. As for Ivan Lyon, he didn't even get to see his infant child before he died.

We also had a ceremony where a few we held the flags of the various countries these men and women came from. I held Malaysia's. We held the flags and tilted them as the song played and a wreath of red poppies was placed there before that.

War is a terrible thing. It not only takes away lives, it takes away part of a family.

ON POST-INVESTITURE HIGH!!!!

I went around asking ppl about how investiture went for them haha! Most liked it a lot... yay! May not have been absolutely perfect, but we all had fun :)

I even googled to see others' comments about the investiture. lol. some are really ego-inflating haha. Glad they liked it and in their words, were "impressed".

pre-invest was hectic, although ppl may not really realize all the hardwork it takes to put up a seemingly short event. But nvm ;) With around 2 months of proposals, dance practices, rehearsals, liaising with other people, worrying about stuff, searching for quotations, wrecking brains over the sitting arrangements, etc..... in the end it was all really worth it. I'm really proud that we managed to pull it off! Especially since this was only our second combined NYSL Invest. We started preparation later, and this year's invest was earlier too. Loved the process. It was a fufilling 2 months - learning to dance and getting to know the other SLs better were my favourite parts. Made friends with Peiting, Josephine, Marilyn and many more :) GOSSIP GALORE. haha!

I think we all managed to take the teamwork between NYSL to the next step. Last time, it was only a Council Investiture. NYSL Invest started last year, but the rest of NYSL was not really involved in the planning. This year, there was an improvement. It's great that we are working together as one NYSL, bridging the gap we had... step by step and we'll all get better and better ;)

Thank you BOM, BEL, PSL, NYSC and teachers! It has been a great experience! Thanks to Chermain and Lauren for teaching us hip-hop, and staying so positive and cheerful although we took a long time to learn!

Next up is THINKING DAY PARADE on 20th FEB 2009!!!! Probably the Sec 4s' last parade in NYGG... Jiayou everyone! It's still a little surreal to think that we only had our first parade as nanyang guides 2 years ago. That year, we even performed in the indoor stadium :) I miss all those batch drills and practices. Oh wells, we can just make the very best out this year's TDP. All the way!!!!

Investiture 2009 - Kaleidoscope

I learnt how to spell kaleidoscope properly through planning of investiture. haha!

Anyways, today was Investiture. It was earlier than last year's but we prepared later, so I'm glad we pulled it off :)

Left class at about 8am for rehearsal. Everything went quite fine until the item cos i forgot some moves -_-. But generally it was fine la. We managed to do 2 rehearsals before going off for a break and then coming back to do ushering duties. By then, my shoes were already killing me. I like the souvenirs and programme booklet ;)

THEN, crop ups started to occur. My hair was not properly tied, my flap was not pinned up properly. Went to dressing room to adjust and stuff. Had to use hair spray. THEN, it was 12.55 ++pm and investiture was starting at 1pm. THEN, I couldn't tell which side of the audi i was supposed to be at from the outside. Luckily, I made it back on time by running like mad. phew.

All went well. My back became kinda stiff after a while though. tried to distract myself my trying to look for my mum in the crowd, but to no avail. Time passed rather quickly when we were on stage.

Item time!!! We rushed to change into our item attire. I was doing hip-hop to the song "Low", can you believe that? Me+ hip-hop = LOL. It turned out quite fine, except i forgot one of the moves for a moment. Hopefully I covered it up well enough. Poor Iris knocked off her cap, but managed to pick it up though :) Everyone was laughing when the "Indian dance" ppl came out to perform. Was quite entertaining. Mass dance was really mass dance. the entire stage was filled with us haha.

Next up was school tour and clearing up. Then PHOTO-TAKING and CHEERING!

haha, today was a blast :D

All the preparation and hardwork paid off i guess :)
